What are the downsides of other materials used for disposable tableware and take-away?

Disposal of "compostable" materials such as bagasse and pulp can be problematic due to their inability to decompose into usable compost or fertilizer and their potential contamination of compost and groundwater. Coating paper for use with food prevents it from being recycled.
