Palm leaf – a premium material
Palm leaf is a natively climate-neutral material, because the leaves occur as an agricultural by-product of nut production. They fall to the ground naturally several times a year and are now processed into tableware instead of being burned.
Natural Waste Product
These products are made from fallen palm leaves, a natural byproduct from areca palms. These palms are planted for nut farming and sustainably harvested in mixed cultivation.
Compostable in 3 Months
Palm leaf products break down into compost within three months, returning to the earth quickly according to the cradle-to-cradle principle.

Our palm leaf products are made in India. We only work with certified suppliers whose workers receive fair wages and women get meaningful employment opportunities. This commitment to ethical practices ensures that your purchase supports communities and promotes gender equality.

All the facilities we work with are certified to ISO 45001: safe and healthy working conditions, plus employee participation and continuous improvement.
Regulated working hours
Most of the facilities we work with are additionally certified to SA8000, which stands for fair wages, regulated working hours, collective bargaining and protection against discrimination.

What are the downsides of other materials used for disposable tableware and take-away?
Eco-friendly materials like paper, bioplastics, bagasse, pulp and fiber face the same downsides as conventional packaging materials such as plastics, aluminums and styrophoam.
High carbon footprint
All other materials are made from fossil or artificial materials that require a lot of carbon and resources to manufacture.

They need toxic chemicals like PFAS to be glued together to withstand liquids, heat, and fat.

Other Products do not naturally compost, so they do not seamlessly reintegrate back into nature.

Other materials
Produced by nature, leaves are the only natively* carbon neutral and emission free material for disposables. They remain untreated and are therefore suitable for industrial and domestic composting.
Industrial material processing typically involves large plants with high energy and water consumption. Toxic wastewater is often dumped or purified in another industrial plant.
Disposal of "compostable" materials such as bagasse and pulp can be problematic due to their inability to decompose into usable compost or fertilizer and their potential contamination of compost and groundwater. Coating paper for use with food prevents it from being recycled.
Certified production standards
Environmental protection and corporate responsibility are what we want to live by with LEEF. We have this confirmed through numerous certifications. Palm leaf is a verified climate-neutral material and our products are certified home compostable. For our sustainability management we received the gold medal from the international organisation EcoVadis.
We work with selected manufacturers in India that hold certifications for ethical working conditions (ISO 45001 / SA8000). Food safety certificates ensure that our palm leaf tableware is free from chemical additives and harmful substances.
